It’s hard to believe that the first round of A Round of Words in 80 Days is over and that March has almost flown by. But here we are in late March. Green is returning to the landscape, birds are singing, and all of the snow has melted—at least here in Virginia.
Overall I’m pleased with my progress in Round 1. I didn’t write every day Monday-Friday, but on the days I wrote I usually hit my target word count of 1,500 words, so I’m pleased with that. I also changed how I track word count midway through January so that I can keep track more accurately when revising.
Here’s what I accomplished in Round 1:
1.) Wrote the second draft of a novella, “Stolen by Magic.”
2.) Wrote the first draft of a novelette, “Be True.”
3.) Started the first draft of a novel, “The Phoenix Feather.”
4.) Read three books on the craft/business of writing: “Beginnings, Middles, and Ends” by Nancy Kress, “How to Market a Book” by Joanna Penn, and “Let’s Get Digital” by David Gaughran. I’m also taking a workshop in writing new-adult fiction that ends later this month.
What about you? How are your goals, writing or otherwise, coming along? Are you participating in A Round of Words in 80 Days? If so, how did the first round go?

A Round of Words in 80 Days is the writing challenge that knows you have a life. It’s also a blog hop!
Sounds like you have a lot to be pleased with! Congrats!
Enjoy the break and best for next round 🙂
Thanks! Yes, overall it was a productive start to 2015. Definitely looking forward to round 2. 🙂
You’ve accomplished a lot Denise! Well done!
Thanks, Bev!
You’ve had a great round! That definitely deserves a reward/treat. 🙂
Is the New Adult workshop an online one? I’m writing NA and I’m always interested in any resources that share how to write well in that genre.
Thanks, Lisa! The workshop is online through a local chapter of the Romance Writers of America–I believe the Carolina Romance Writers, though I’m not one-hundred percent sure. RWA always has a list of upcoming workshops, contests, and conferences on its web page, so you can check there for other workshops related to NA.
Thanks, I’ll check that out. 🙂
W00t! What a Round,eh? Started off strong myself and then got busy. Now I am building back up. I am eager to begin Round 2. Got a better plan (I think) and some new projects too! 🙂
It flew by, but I’m pleased with what I accomplished. Already looking forward to my round 2 goals. 🙂
