I have to admit that, being a night owl, Daylight Savings Time and I are not the closest of friends. I know I’m not alone. In fact, the fatigue associating with the time change causes a drop in productivity and an increase in car accidents, according to a USA Today article:
“… on Monday and Tuesday, our risk of having a car accident will rise about 6%, research shows, as will our chances of being in a workplace accident. Productivity traditionally plummets too, in the days after a shift to daylight saving time.”
Despite the sleepiness, I’m enjoying the warmer weather, the return of bird song to the landscape, and the beautiful, sunny day we’ve been blessed with. Soon, I’ll be planting basil and lettuce, and red geraniums will grace my tiny balcony. I’m already looking forward to mornings spent writing outside.
What about you? How does the time change affect your energy levels?
ROW80 Check-in
1.) Finish a draft of paranormal romance novella “Good, Old-Fashioned Magic.” Wrote 3,772 words this week. The story currently comes in a little under 28,000 words. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can finish the first draft this week!
2.) Read to hone my craft. Made good progress on this goal this week. I only have two more chapters left in Julia Cameron’s “Walking in this World,” and I’m about two-thirds of the way through “2k to 10k: Writing Faster, Writing Better, and Writing More of What You Love” by Rachel Aaron.
3.) Blog at least two times a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. Target met.
4.) Check in on Twitter daily and on WANA Tribe at least once/week. Target met for Twitter, not for WANA Tribe.
5.) Comment on 5-6 blogs per day, Monday-Thursday. Target met.
6.) Super-secret project: Write two articles/posts each week for that project. No progress to report. I’ve been duking it out with my WIP, so that’s taken most of my creative focus this week.
A Round of Words in 80 Days (ROW80), founded by author Kait Nolan, is the writing challenge that knows you have a life. It’s also a blog hop!
Is spring returning to the landscape where you live? Does the time change mess with your routine? And how are your goals coming along for Round 1–or otherwise?
Great progress! But I feel your pain on the daylight saving time thing. I hate it. I wish they would pick one and stick with it.
Thanks, Nicole. Yeah, I’m not really sure why we still have daylight savings time. I will say that I’m glad that it’s getting darker later. Mostly I’m just happy for the return of spring. Have a great week! 🙂
I think daylight savings time is an archaic ritual we follow. I dislike it and find it pointless.
Good progress on your goals. Best wishes for a done draft this week. 🙂
Oh, I’m with you on that one.
Thank you. Have a great week, Gloria! 🙂
I HATE time change! But I hate going to Standard time more, when it all of a sudden gets dark so early! I wish we could just stay on Daylight time all year long. You did great on your writing this week – keep up the good work!
I hate that, too. Since I’m not an early riser, I get no benefit from either time change. In the fall, I just lose a precious hour of sunlight, and in the spring, I have trouble readjusting my sleep schedule. Either way, I’m not a fan.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Jennette! Have a wonderful week. 🙂

Definitely wish the powers-that-be would pick one and stick with it!
Great update Denise. Wishing you continued progress!
Me too! I keep scratching my head to figure out why we still do it.
Thanks, Raelyn!
