Okay, I spent all day painting the bedroom, and I’m exhausted. Needless to say, I’m keeping this check-in brief.
This week wasn’t impressive as far as word count—a measly 785 words in my WIP. I probably wrote more than that, but there was a lot of rewriting and polishing on chapter two, so that’s where the word count technically stands. More importantly, I now have a relatively cohesive draft of the second chapter! For some reason, this chapter didn’t come easily, but it’s out there now, and I’m moving on with the story. Whew.
I also read two more chapters in Julia Cameron’s “Walking in this World,” so I’m caught up on that, including doing the corresponding “tasks” that go along with each chapter.
And, of course, I blogged Wednesday and Sunday. 🙂
I also have a side project going that I should probably add to my ROW80 goals, since I’m putting in a decent amount of time into that. (I’m keeping that one secret-ish for now.)
What about you? How did your week of writing go?
It’s hard tracking word count when you’re revising. I went through 10 chapters of one of my WiPs last week but only have a little over 1000 more words added. It’s so much easier to track words during a first draft, but it’s still progress.
Agreed. I try not to worry too much about word count when revising–I might take out 500 words and add 500 somewhere else in the MS. You’re right, though. It’s still progress. Thanks! 🙂
Revising is definitely progress, regardless of the effect on wordcount! And why not add the secret goal? You don’t have to say what it is, we can still cheer you on! 😀 Good job and keep up the good work!
You’re right, Jennette. Maybe I’ll add in it when I post Sunday’s check-in. I hope you’re having a fabulous week! Thanks for stopping by!
I always have a hard time track progress when revising. It sounds like you made good progress even if it was slow going this week. Wishing you a fabulous week Denise.
Yeah, word count isn’t really a good indication of progress when you’re revising. Sometimes you make something better by condensing it.
You too, Raelyn! 🙂
